We have been in the community for over 30 years. We offer accommodations for up to 12 men at a time in the house and have a resident manager on site 24/7. The men are required to attend 4 AA meetings a week, assigned cleaning duties, and pay an affordable weekly program fee toward their room and board.

Mentoring is provided by volunteers (ages 18 and older) who commit to mentor a youth (ages 6 - 18) through regular contact and activities three to four times per month for a 12-month commitment. The agency recruits, screens, trains, and supports the mentoring relationship.

The program sends nurses and outreach workers into the homes of at-risk children and pregnant women to ensure the health of the children and mothers. Home visits promote the physical, cognitive, and emotional development of children and provide general support and parenting instructions to the parents from prenatal to age 6. The goals of CHIP are healthier children in the impoverished communities, higher functioning families, and the reduction of barriers to the delivery of comprehensive services.

Emphasis is on maintaining maximum wellness and independence through a structured program of nursing and personal care, therapeutic and enriching activities, breakfast, lunch and snacks, friendships/emotional support, transportation coordination and careful supervision up to 10 hours a day, six days a week.

The Center includes four clinics providing quality care and services in the areas of primary health, mental health, dental, and vision. The Daily Planet also provides Case Management services to the homeless, or those at-risk of homelessness, by offering a treatment plan aimed at helping the client become self-sufficient. The Daily Planet operates the only Safe Haven in Virginia. The program includes a 22-bed transitional housing facility for the mentally ill who are chronically homeless and need shelter and supportive services in managing their illness in order to become self-sufficient.

We also assist the unemployed, minimum wage earners, and those with disability claims pending and no income or insurance. Clients must be income eligible and assistance is limited to $200 annually per individual. Our Medication Fund is a program of last resort used only after all other funding sources, programs and services are explored.

Today, Fan Free Clinic serves over 12,500 individuals each year through its many programs! Medical services at the Clinic are offered through multiple day and evening clinic sessions each week, which include general medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, primary care, family planning, and sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, as well as day and evening hours for HIV antibody testing. Medical services are provided free of charge by volunteer medical professionals who are assisted by community volunteers. Fan Free Clinic also serves as a community rotation site and placement site for VCU’s Medical College of Virginia residents. A nutritionist and chiropractor also volunteer their services, on an as needed basis, for clients requesting information and evaluation.
