Take care of yourself when
you are a caregiver

  • Don’t neglect your own health … get regular checkups, tell your doctor you are a caregiver, and tell your doctor if you feel nervous or depressed.

  • Take some time each day to do something for yourself.

  • Eat healthy meals and don’t skip meals.

  • Find caregiver resources in your area early so you will have them when you need them.  The Family Caregiver Alliance (www.caregiver.org) and Senior Connections (www.seniorconnections-va.org) are good places to begin.

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
